My version of the well known trick. Canon TC1.4 with the taped pins. This trick fools the camera into thinking there is no TC, hence it does not disable the AF mechanism. And while I do not actually recommend using AF (it hunts alot and wears out the gears fast), in MF mode you'll get a very clean focus confirmation.
Tools and materials: TC (duh), scotch tape, scissors, tweezers.
Time needed: under 5 min.
Steps:
1) prepare everything on a clean working surface, put the TC with the lens side up
2) with the scissors, cut out a small portion of the scotch tape, twice or thrice as wide as three pins, and just about 3-5mm long.
3) with the tweezers position the tape in a way that it covers the first three pins (but not 4)
4) gently apply pressure on the rest of the tape, so it sticks to the even part of the TC inner surface
If you don't get it the first time - take it off and try again.
